6 items to discuss

Hi guys!

Just a few things to discuss and get action on:

1-Carson's rank advancement 

I got ahold of Don Borg--I finally got his cell so keep this for your records as well--801-891-2636).

We'll have the advancement take place right after church--12:00.

Meet by the clerk's office.

Gary, Bryce, Steve--plan to stay after with Don and me and we'll get him trained. We have badges to pick up, camps to plan, etc., and he should be involved.

2-Monthly meeting--

I'd like to propose a meeting at my house every fast Sunday at 4:00 (so fast offerings and meetings can finish, etc.). Will this work?

Fast Sundays good or should we plan another Sunday?

I do think we should meet monthly at least as a Pres. and do visits as needed on other days.

3-Next Wed.

I will not be there due to a prior commitment. Gary and Bryce, you both have the next two Wed activities. I think Bryce has his scheduled; Gary, can you let us know what is planned? Ideally, we'll tie Wed. Scouting activities straight to merit badge requirements or rank advancement requirements.

4-Asst. ScoutMaster

I am lobbying big time to get one. Bishop is on board I believe. Steve, beat this drum for us in bishopric meets if you can.  :-)

5-Fundraiser

Each of us needs to work with our quorums to do some things for the fundraiser in late April That is not too far away if you think about it.

a-Carnvial booth--each quorum is responsible for one. What do your young men want to do?

b-Donations--each quorum/class should strive for ~$500 in donated items that we can auction off. Who do you (and they) know? Tickets, items, products, services--we need to look at everything.

Start thinking about this and talk to them. We want them to own as much as they can, as the money benefits them and their activities.

6-Lesson on Sunday

I have it. We are all combined.

7-Lesson schedule

Who teaches on what weeks for Teachers and Deacons? Please email me or Cam so we can put it in the calendar asap.

Young Men update (March 2, 2014)

Hi everyone!

We hope everyone was uplifted and inspired at Stake Conference!

As YM Presidency and advisors, we love working with your sons. Thanks for all your efforts in raising them to be such good young men and future leaders in our Church, community, and world.

Just a few items to make you aware of:

1–Activities this week

We have a combined YM/YW activity this week. YM are in charge of GAME NIGHT, which will begin at 7:00 after some opening exercises and a discussion regarding our April fundraiser. 

Many of us in the YM Presidency met today to go over final details and we have a fun night in store!

2–DUTY TO GOD Fireside

A big thanks to everyone who participated. Please note that we will utilize our DTG booklets more in Sunday lessons, and encourage you and your young men to review them and utilize them in Family Home Evenings and at other times.

3–Reminder: The 2014 youth theme is "Come Unto Christ."

The youth of the stake have been asked to memorize THE LIVING CHRIST this year.

Many of the boys are making good progress. Please help support them in their efforts.

UPCOMING BSA ACTIVITIES:

Summer Camp Dates: August 4-9

Gary sent out an email earlier today. Please review it and reach out to him or me with with any further questions. If the $100 deposit causes hardship, please contact me. No boy with interest in attending should or will be excluded due to financial issues.

Per Gary:

The camp will be August 4-9 and the boys will need to be there for the entire week, if at all possible. We are asking for a $100 deposit per boy to commit their attendance. 

We need to register for these high demand items ASAP.    Please let me know if your boy has interest and ability to commit and activities they would be interested in, this week. 

3-5 combined activity/fundraiser in April

Hi everyone!

There are two pressing items that are coming at us quickly. Due to stake conference next week, we do not have the time to get together and coordinate so this email attempts to do that.

Although we are not meeting (YM) this Wednesday, we are in charge of the combined activity the following Wed. 

3-5 combined activity

YM and YW are combined that Wed., and we have decided to move the GAME NIGHT from May to March.

As such, we need some quorum assistance.

1-Deacons will be in charge of the "digital room." We will have the RS room with a Wii with games like JUST DANCE or whatever else is popular and the youth would like. Matt Lingwall will head this up and lead the charge in bringing equipment, games, etc. He will delegate to young men as needed. We can use the TV in the bishop's office as needed, as well as other library TVs.

2-Teachers will be in charge of the "sports" area. This will be in the gym and we will have balls, frisbees, etc. allowing people to move from station to station or activity to activity. Cory Peterson will head this up and lead the charge in bringing equipment, etc. He will delegate to young men as needed.

3-Priests will be in charge of the "traditional games" area. This will be in the gym or on the stage and we will have Uno, Phase 10, and some other games that can be played in the time we have. I will head this up and lead the charge in bringing equipment, etc. 

Refreshments: I will plan to work with the young men or bring these myself. I propose a budget of $40.

Fundraiser in April

Toward the end of April, we plan to have our fundraiser. I believe it is the last Sat. of that month.

Our hope is to raise $3,000 this year. Our funds are depleted due to an early year youth conference, and not having a strong push for donations the last year or so.

We are NOT in charge of the food that evening. Two other quorums/groups (Elders and HP?) are in charge of the food.

However, we are in charge of the fundraising/activity portion.

As such, we need to consider what we can do, and we NEED your input.

1-Auctions have done quite well for us in the past (cakes, services, items, etc.). We propose continuing this; do you agree?

If so, what should we include in these auctions? Previously, we have done edibles and also gift baskets, products (new and used), services (mainly by the youth and youth leaders), etc.

If we do new and used products, we would need the youth and leaders to assist rounding these up (gift certificates from local companies, etc.). Also,  if we auction off services, especially from the youth, I want to ensure we follow through and get the service completed in a timely manner.

2-Carnival

As we are closing in on good weather in late April, we thought of having each quorum and class be in charge of a carnival booth. One could be a ring toss, another could do magnetic darts, another could do free throws, etc. Something like this. Tickets could be required to play games.

Do you like this idea? If so, do we "charge" for admission (which gets you food and a certain number of tickets) and then have people buy more tickets to play additional games? 

I am worried that the ticket idea will not bring in a lot of revenue by itself; we'd need to do something in addition to it for sure to get to 3k. But it would be a good way to get youth involved and ensure they actively participate in their fundraiser.

3-Other ideas?

We are open to other ideas. I'd like to cover create a proposal Lucinda and I can get in front of the bishopric in the next couple of weeks, and would love to get any additional and/or new ideas we can consider.

NO YM MEETING THIS WEDNESDAY

Hi everyone!

Thanks again for your participation/attendance last evening at our Duty to God fireside.

We appreciate your efforts becoming more familiar with this inspired program instituted by the Church to help fulfill the purposes of the Aaronic Priesthood in the lives of each of our young men.

Also, we will continue move forward with our BSA program. We are grateful for Gary and Bryce, and their leadership, and will work toward getting a calendar for campouts and summer activities. Also, we are excited for the young men that are close to their Eagle advancement in BSA and will continue to support them in their efforts to achieve this rank.

Finally, there will be NO MEETING this Wednesday evening due to a choir performance I will attend for Jensen and the other YM leaders attending New Beginnings for their daughters.

Thanks again for all you do. We love working with your sons and love to see them grow and progress. 

URGENT assignments and reminder: Feb. 23 fireside

All:

Just a reminder of this Sunday.

Again, the objective of this fireside is to educate and inspire the youth and their parents on the purposes and importance of the DTG program.

We'll refocus on that and integrate that more tightly into our teaching and Sunday activities, and we need to help the parents know we can only do so much as leaders. It has to be adopted and supported at home as well to really work the way it should.

Matt L.:

1-Work with the Deacons Quorum and/or Presidency to present the "LEARN" portion of Learn, Act, Share. They should take 5-6 minutes total. The more boys we can have participate in the quorum the better (perhaps say what LEARN means to them and why they feel it is important after they have read the DTG booklet description of it).

2-Assign an opening prayer (and let me know who it is prior to the 6:00 start).

3-Be in the Relief Society room 15 minutes early to help set up

Cory P.:

1-Work with the Teachers Quorum and/or Presidency to present the "ACT" portion of Learn, Act, Share. They should take 5-6 minutes total. The more boys we can have participate in the quorum the better (perhaps say what ACT means to them and why they feel it is important after they have read the DTG booklet description of it).

2-Assign a closing prayer (and let me know who it is prior to the 6:00 start).

3-Be in the Relief Society room 15 minutes early to help set up

Cam:

1-Bring 2 dozen cookies

2-Find someone to play the piano (let me know if you need help asap) and ask a young man to conduct the opening/closing hymns

Gary:

1-Be prepared to discuss plans for summer camp and other camps as needed. It would be good to have a calendar of camps through August if possible so parents can plan accordingly.

Bryce:

1-Share whatever is necessary on your end. Maybe talk about progress toward Eagle projects and how close many of the boys are. Encourage parents to continue to assist and see their boys through the process.

Member of bishopric:

1-Provide concluding remarks (please gauge time; I don't want to exceed an hour total for the presentation part)

John:

1-Bring A/V for video

Young Men update (Feb. 9, 2014)

Hi everyone!

We had a great activity last Wednesday headed up by the Young Women (thanks to those that led and participated in this activity). We played Gospel Battleship.

Just a few items to make you aware of:

1–Activities this week

The Varsity Scouts held a planning session a few weeks back and this week they will be going to Nickelcade. The Boy Scouts will be preparing for the Klondike Derby (which occurs January 21, 22).

2–Upcoming Fireside

On February 23, we plan on having a fireside at the church. We will plan to have it at 6:00 in the Relief Society room. We will cover summer activities for the boys, as well as go over Duty to God.  It will not exceed an hour, and some refreshments will be provided.

3–Sunday preparations

We would ask that the Teachers report to the sacrament preparation station (by the bishop's office) at 8:40. We have noticed there has been some issues getting this prepared on time. Please support your son by helping him arrive as close to 8:40 as possible.

We also ask the deacons report to the primary room to help set up chairs at that same time.
