Young Men's update (12-21-15)

Hi everyone!

We had a great night last Wednesday wrapping Sub-for-Santa! Some of the youth helped participate delivering the gifts as well. Thank you for your generosity and donations (and thanks to the youth for helping purchase and wrap the gifts)!

There will be NO Wed. activity for the young men this week or next week.

Also, Youth Conference will be held on January 8-9 (Friday/Sat.). See the rough schedule at the link below (we will be adding additional minor details in the next 10 days).

Below is a link to the permission slip you must sign to allow your child to attend. Please print it out and send it with them next Sunday to give to Bryce Lovell or Steve Walker (I will be out of town).

Thank you, and Merry Christmas!

Young Men update (12-1-2015)

Hi everyone!

Happy first day of December!

This Wednesday, we plan to meet at the stake center at 6:00 p.m. to have Bishop Trent Anderson teach the boys that are still working on their Citizenship in the Nation merit badge (many of the Teachers and younger still need this badge--if in doubt, please ask your son) and then having our annual YM Christmas Party at Godfather's Pizza!
Please plan to meet at the stake center (RS room) at 6:00 p.m. if you are working on your merit badge. Meet at 6:45 if you are not. We will leave at 7:00 sharp for Godfather's.

Please expect everyone to be home between 8:30-9:00.

2016 Youth Conference is planned for January 8-9.
We know not everyone can make it (sorry, we tried to accommodate as many as we could, but there will always be conflicts unfortunately). A few months back I sent out a survey in one of my emails, and between the respondents for me and the YW, these were the best dates for the majority of people.

Look for additional information coming on this activity soon!

Thank you!

Please plan to meet at the stake center at 6:30 p.m. Expect everyone to be home between 8:30-9:00.

Thanks!

Young Men update (11-3-2015)

Hi everyone! We've got some good things to report this week!

A big welcome to new leaders!
Steve Schoeneman--has been serving as the Priests Quorum Advisor, but has been called to now serve as the Teachers Quorum Advisor and Asst. Varsity Coach
Cody Backus--has been called as the Priests Quorum Advisor
Kaelen Gustafson--has been call as the Deacons Quorum Advisor and an Asst. Scoutmaster

This Wednesday we don't have an activity, because Friday is BAPTISMS FOR THE DEAD.
Please plan to meet at the stake center this Friday at 4:15 p.m. We must be dressed and ready by 5:00. The dinner will be at 6:30 (youth are free but adults are not).

We will plan to start Citizenship in the Nation for the many of the Scouts that still need it THIS SATURDAY MORNING. Bishop Anderson has been kind enough to begin teaching this. He will be reaching out to the boys we show as needing it. If your son needs it, please make sure you email him for details:

Trent Anderson <tanderson@graymont.com>

Thanks!

Young Men update (10-27-2015)

Hi!

This Wednesday we have SCOUTS--Stake Center--7:00 p.m.
We will plan to start Citizenship in the Nation for the many of the Scouts that still need it, review where some of the older Scouts are rank-wise/merit badge-wise, and go over paperwork for three of the Eagle candidates!

A big THANKS to those who attended and helped set up/take down/bring food, etc. for THE YOUNG AND THE WISE last Wednesday (see attached pics). It was a huge success, and many of the people we've discussed the activity with said they had a really great time. Thanks again!

Next Wednesday (11-4) we will not have YM. Rather, we will go to the temple on 11-6 for baptisms for the dead and then eat in the cafeteria with the rest of the ward. This will be an early activity (we'll need to leave relatively early from the church). Stay tuned for more details!

Thanks!

Young Men update (10-18-2015)

Hi everyone!

This Wednesday we have THE YOUNG AND THE WISE!
Wednesday--Stake Center--5:45 p.m. to begin setting up the south side of the cultural hall (Bryce will lead the set up)
Come hungry! We'll have soup, rolls, and salad and a FUN ACTIVITY/GAME.

Also, this Tuesday (Oct. 20) at 6:00 p.m. is the Face to Face event with The Piano Guys! This activity is specifically for youth, but it is great for everyone! Although we won't have an official ward activity for this, you can get more information about viewing it online here: Face to Face with The Piano Guys

Thanks!

Details for YOUNG AND THE WISE: This Wednesday

Hi everyone!

I spoke with Jen Harmon (2nd ward YW Pres.). We had a very good conversation, and we were able to arrive at a good compromise for both parties.

We will partition the cultural hall. The 2nd ward will need the kitchen and the cultural hall/stage area, and we will take the south side of the cultural hall.

They will need the round tables and a few rectangular tables for food, so we will have all rectangular tables this year.

Please review assignments below, and please reply to me asap if you see any problems or issues with these assignments:

Assignments:

Set up—Bryce to lead with Steve S. and Brett H. assisting; other leaders and YM to come and help at 5:45 or as close as possible (event starts at 6:30)

Paper goods—Steve Backus to let us know if we need to buy more or have enough at the church

Tablecloths—John will bring 15--all rectangular

Centerpieces—if desired, YW can bring them

Soups—
John Dye--2
Bryce--1
Steve Walker--1
Bishop Anderson--1
Bishop Mooy--1
Steve S.--1
Young Women leaders--3

Rolls (140 total with honey butter; these are always a favorite)—YW
(Lucinda, will a YW leader be able to order these and pick them up from a local Golden Corral? That is where we usually go. I am concerned YM will be setting up and we cannot spare a body).

Salad—Steve Walker

Activity/game—Rick Pearmain and Steve Backus to MC

Anything I am missing?

Thank you for your help! This will be fun!

Murray High has their last home football game on the evening before Fall Break, so we realize attendance may be lower than normal.

Thanks!

Young Men update (10-5-2015)

Hi everyone!

I hope you enjoyed General Conference this past weekend. It was historic (probably once in a lifetime) as we welcomed three brethren into the Quorum of the Twelve.

Last week was the AMAZING RACE. I think all the youth (and leaders) had an amazing time! Thanks to the YW for hosting the event!

This Wednesday we have a stake youth fireside!
Wednesday--Stake Center--7:00 p.m.
The fireside will consist of having the Bishops from all 8 wards form a panel and answer questions texted to them by youth of the stake. Please let your youth know the number (715-600-8499), and let them know all questions will be kept anonymous. No need to put their names on the texts.

-The local wards are in charge of youth conference next year. We have done both early year (January) and mid-year (summer) conferences before, and in talking with Bishop's Youth Council this past Sunday, it appears the consensus was to try to have it in January 2016.

We are trying to determine the best dates. Please reply back with any dates (Friday/Sat.) that DO NOT work for your young man (due to athletics, etc.). The options we are looking at include these dates:

8/9
15/16
22/23
29/30

Thanks!

HELP NEEDED at tomorrow night's activity

Hi everyone!

I was texting with Bishop Anderson recently about tomorrow night's activity (Friends of Scouting), and we could really use Fathers tomorrow evening to accompany their sons and other young men on routes.

We will have adult YM leaders as well, but more adults can be utilized. Thanks, in advance, for your help!

Young Men update (8-16-2015)

Hi everyone!

1-We'll see you this Wednesday at 7:00 at the church for the STAKE POOL PARTY!
We'll meet there and travel to 8125 S 2200 W. Snacks and drinks at the pool! Bring trunks and a towel.

2-Sorry, but this is the third and final time I will send this as a reminder. These are the merit badge updates (for boys and parents):
Collections merit badge (update by Gary Nebeker)--all combined group work has been finished. Each boy needs to define, build or expand their collection. Then work with Bob Stahl to get it signed off.

Digital technology merit badge (update by Steve Walker)--Started last spring and finished up the class work and demonstrations. The scouts and I decided at that time that we would let them complete the school year before we finished. Now we need the scouts to do some book work. The primary thing that must be completed is the "Cyber Chip" which is an agreement to safely use the Internet. That is a contract between the scout and their parent. The scouts have the paperwork for it. When that is complete, I can work with each of them to get the final requirements passed off. I think we can get this finished up before the school year starts but I'll need some help to get there.
