Young Men update (7-28-2015)

Hi everyone!

1-We'll see you this Wednesday at 7:00 at the church for frisbee golf!
Bring a frisbee if you have one!

2-Merit badge updates (for boys and parents):
Collections merit badge (update by Gary Nebeker)--all combined group work has been finished. Each boy needs to define, build or expand their collection. Then work with Bob Stahl to get it signed off.

Digital technology merit badge (update by Steve Walker)--Started last spring and finished up the class work and demonstrations. The scouts and I decided at that time that we would let them complete the school year before we finished. Now we need the scouts to do some book work. The primary thing that must be completed is the "Cyber Chip" which is an agreement to safely use the Internet. That is a contract between the scout and their parent. The scouts have the paperwork for it. When that is complete, I can work with each of them to get the final requirements passed off. I think we can get this finished up before the school year starts but I'll need some help to get there.

Thanks for your support of these fine young men everyone!

Update on Eagle candidates--PLEASE READ

Hi everyone!

I met last evening with Ben, Caden, and Joe. Here is a report on what we covered and what they still need to do (the help and encouragement of parents is always valued, esp. since the finish line is so close).

1-Caden and Joe filled out the post-Eagle project report. Ben arrived late so still needs to finish this piece. They need to get Pat Bell's signature on this report (she is the project "sponsor"). They are aware this needs to occur.

2-They all have the 2-page Eagle Scout application which is required for their Eagle advancement. Much of this information can be filled out by them (references, misc. info.). They do need dates they received their merit badges, positions they have held within the troop, etc. Hopefully there are records in your home, but if not Matt, Bryce, or I can assist with getting those fields completed.

I arranged for our Scout Committee Chair to be there last evening, so they all explained what they did and gave a report to him (Don Borg) and received his needed signature on the Eagle app. They still need to get their unit leader's signature (Matt Lingwall) and complete the full application before it can be give to Brother Backus who will hand it in to the stake.

3-Once the stake receives it, one of the Scout leaders at that level will work with Brother Backus to arrange for an Eagle Board of Review. This is attended by the parents, the unit leader, the Scout Cmte. Chair (although Don will have moved to ID by then so we will find a replacement), Brother Backus, and either Steve Walker or myself. The parents and unit leader attend the welcoming portion and then join to hear the decision of the committee at the end. All boys should know the oath, law, slogan, etc. forwards and backwards. Ideally, they will attend this in their scout uniform (if it still fits them).

4-If all goes well in the Board of Review, the date of the review is when the boy officially is an "Eagle." Paperwork is sent in to the Council, and it takes about 6 weeks for the parents to receive a blue card in the mail authorizing the Eagle award to be purchased at the Scout shop. The Eagle award is then awarded at a Court of Honor.

5-We hope to hold this Court of Honor in late September for all three boys (they said they prefer getting it together), so having these young men get through these final steps is imperative. Please sit down with them, review the documentation, and help as much as possible. Let's get these last steps finished and help them get their Eagles!

Thanks again for your help and support! We are so close I can taste it!
