Hi everyone!

A few housekeeping items:

1-Everyone should know by now, but the YM Presidency has recently changed. A big THANKS to Cory and Matt, and a big WELCOME to Bryce and Chad.

2-Auction items that still need fulfilled:

1-Bobbie Adsitt (2 hours)--I will own this project with Jensen

2-Aguirres (1 hour)--pulling weeds--Bryce, can you own this with a couple young men? One could be Braden Aguirre. Jenny A.'s number is (801) 703-7353.

3-Backmans (2 hours)--Chad, can you own this with a couple boys in the Deacons Quorum? Lucinda's number is 801-270-0117.

4-Marlett McKinney's mother in Riverton (10 hours)--misc. jobs, but need a truck for a few trips to the dump (she will reimburse for dump fees).

Gary, Bryce, and Don: Could we use your trucks to complete this job on 6-25 (last Wed; YM combined week)? We will need to announce this to the boys; this is a big enough job we need the majority of boys and leaders there.

Please reply to this so I know you read it and will accept the assignments.

3-Do we have any young men that need to meet with Don for rank advancement?

4-The next 2 weeks will be Scouts on Wed. Matt, I'd like to talk to you about maybe having you try to get the young men that are close to Eagle, along with their parents, to an "Eagle Packet" training meeting where they understand the contents of a packet that walks them through the process from A-Z.

We had a good night of visits.

Brother and Sister Davis (missionary couple) and the FT Elders (Bennett and Munton) joined us at the apartments.

We did splits, and the Davis' and Elder Munton went to the Pereya and met Orlando (we did too, but left so we didn't fill up their whole living room). Laura L. and Lisa W. joined later as well. Laura can probably give a better update on what occurred on Sunday.

Elder Bennett and I visited the Thome residence and gave Mitchell a blessing at the request of Sis. Thome. Johann was at the skate park and did not return while we were there. I texted him yesterday, but have yet to hear back from him.

We also visited Alvin, Alvin's mom, and Humberto. Alvin asked if e-cigs were ok since they did not have tobacco. Elder Bennett answered, and his answer was ok. We can discuss more on Sunday.

We had hoped to visit the Weidmers as well, but she was back at work.

Rick, we only had time to check on one apt--B24. Luan Pereira. No longer there. The current family living there have been there since July 2013.

We had representatives from the primary, YW, RS, HP, and YM out tonight.

Some of the families that we talked about visiting were the Pereyras, Moburgs, <new family at the end of Saddle Bluff Dr>, Thomes, Puga and Rios. I know the Primary also made it to the Linges.

Laura set up the Thome family at 6:15. I will try to be there around 6:30 or so. I texted Johann and asked if he would be around, but have yet to hear back.

At 7:30, we set up Laura Pereya. Brother and Sister Davis, the senior missionaries, should be there as well to meet Laura's husband and hopefully create a relationship that will result in him being taught the Gospel eventually.

I tried to get Sister Weidmer as well; no luck. Good news though--she said tonight is her first night back to work since her injury. She replied quickly to me, so that bodes well for future communication.

Any others we should stop by and see if we have a few extra minutes? Alvin perhaps?

Service projects from the auction

Hi everyone!

We have a few items we need to address in the next 3 weeks or so.

The following purchased "service" time from our young men, and we need to fulfill on this:

1-Bobbie Adsitt (2 hours)--we can get 2 boys and 1 leader for 45 minutes and call it good

2-Aguirres (1 hour)--pulling weeds--we can get 2 boys and 1 leader for 30 minutes and call it good

3-Backmans (2 hours)--pulling weeds--we can get 2 boys and 1 leader for 45 minutes and call it good

4-Marlett McKinney's mother in Riverton (10 hours)--misc. jobs, but need a truck for a few trips to the dump (she will reimburse for dump fees)

We need to identify a night when all youth and leaders (along with at least one truck) can go to Marlett's mothers home.

Also, we can knock out the other projects in one evening if we have youth show up. I want to ensure the majority of the young men can help both evenings.

Scout leaders, I propose we take the 3rd and 4th Wed. evenings (18th and 25th), and knock out all the service. Traditionally, the 18th would be a Scout night. Our combined activity would be the 25th.

Any thoughts on this? I'd love feedback.

As another alternative, we could plan to do just one night for service, and assign out the smaller weed pulling projects to those who cannot attend that night if desired. 

I feel strongly the boys who go to scout camp and participate in other activities that are benefitted by the money earned at the service project participate, however. This is a great opportunity to teach them service and responsibility. Hours can also be counted toward service needed by many of our scouts for rank advancements.

Young Men update (May 25, 2014)

Here's the latest news involving the Young Men program. Please pay particular attention to the things in RED).

1–Activities last week/this week

The Scouts finished their Lifesaving merit badge. Congrats guys! You are now prepped and ready for summer camp!

This Wednesday, we will meet at the church at 7:00. The Varsity Scouts will be going over some items needed for their Camping merit badge. The younger boys will either be joining them or doing something on their own (depending on if the older boys will be covering items the younger boys already have completed).

 

2–River Stake Youth "Day of Christ"

Date: Saturday, May 31st

10 a.m.—meet at 1300 West bldg.
11 a.m.—service project at St.Joseph's Villa (451 Bishop Federal Lane)

12:30 Lunch (provided by stake)

1:30 p.m. Downtown scavenger hunt (by Temple Square)

3:00 Video at Temple Square

4:30 Home to clean up

5:30-8:30 Passover dinner at stake center

Young Men update (May 11, 2014)

We had a great Court of Honor last Sunday. I was able to grab some video (I got most of the awards given, but not all--sorry). Scroll to the bottom to see the video segments.

Here's the latest involving the Young Men program. Please pay particular attention to the things in RED).

1–Activities last week/this week

We had planned to do the service project (in red below) last week, but due to weather we met inside and did a missionary activity. We have letters, treats, and some pics to send to the missionaries serving from our ward. (see pics at bottom of email).

This Wednesday, we will meet at the church at 7:00 to provide service for a couple of families in the ward. Please have youth dress appropriately and bring a pair of gloves, as we plan to be outside doing yard work.

2–River Stake Youth "Day of Christ"

> Date: Saturday May 31st
> Start time: 10 a.m. (will be a full day activity--lunch and dinner will be included)
> Overview: service project, scavenger hunt, video, special dinner. 
> This is an all day event!
> Lunch and dinner will be provided, we will NOT be doing breakfast. 
> Who should attend: youth, youth leaders, and bishopric members. 

 

3–Upcoming BSA activities

-June 13-14 (next camp)

-Aug. 4-9 (Council Camp)
